pensamiento) y la segunda se relaciona con la compren-
sión del rol de la cognición social en el pronóstico.
Dentro de estas dos áreas, podemos vislumbrar varias
cuestiones, incluyendo la necesidad de identificar subs-
tratos neuronales de actuación de la cognición social
para desarrollar modelos de conducta que fragmenten la
cognición social en los procesos de subcomponentes12;
la necesidad de entender diferencias individuales en el
funcionamiento cognitivo social, e identificar posibles
predictores de las consecuencias además de la cognición
y la cognición social (por ejemplo, la autoestima), para
referirnos sólo a unos pocos8, 12, 50.
Conclusión
Como se mencionó, es bastante reciente el giro de
interés hacia la cognición social en la esquizofrenia18, 53,
con la pregunta de hasta qué punto los déficits en los
apartados de cognición social pueden ayudar a entender
un funcionamiento social pobre en la esquizofrenia.
Hay, es cierto, investigaciones que apoyan que la neu-
rocognición influye en el funcionamiento en la comu-
nidad de una manera más directa y que la cognición
social puede jugar un papel crítico en la predicción en
la comunidad. Hay pruebas que han mostrado que
estadísticamente las valoraciones cognitivo-sociales
pueden distinguir mejor entre pacientes y no pacientes
que los tests no sociales18. Sin embargo, si se conside-
ran las muchas preguntas sin respuesta en esta área, hay
todavía un largo camino que recorrer hasta que tenga-
mos una imagen clara y coherente de cómo la cogni-
ción social afecta a la recuperación de las personas con
esquizofrenia.
